Grant Cottage Porch Chat - 08/30/2011
Steve Trimm portrays Duncan McGregor, builder of the Grant Cottage
It was in the cottage built by Duncan McGregor that Ulysses S. Grant, former President and hero of the Civil War, passed away on July 23rd., 1885. But who was Duncan McGregor? He was a lumberman and a well-to-do businessman, an individual of sharp opinions and eccentricities. That much is certain. But it was claimed he was a direct descendant of Rob Roy McGregor, the Scottish Robin Hood. And it was also claimed that he was related to Ulysses S. Grant. What are the facts? What are the myths? On Wednesday, August 31st. at noon, tour guide Steve Trimm will portray Duncan McGregor. In the role of Mr. McGregor he will answer any and all questions. But should you believe him? You be the judge! This event is free and open to all ages. The Grant Cottage is open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day Wednesday–Sunday, 10am to 4pm and from Labor Day through Columbus Day, Saturday and Sunday 10am to 4pm.
