Nominations Open for 2022 Joseph Dalton Community Service Award and Impact Sector Volunteer of the Year
It takes a village to create and maintain a vibrant and thriving community like Saratoga County. It takes local residents and organizations invested in our community’s health and well-being to ensure we have a sustainable vision for years to come.
The Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce is proud to partner with those individuals and organizations every single day as we all work to make Saratoga County one of the best places to live, work, and play. And we’re looking to recognize those individuals who have made an impact on our community.
The Chamber will honor two outstanding individuals in recognition of their dedication, commitment, and servant leadership to the Saratoga County community at large with The Joseph Dalton Community Service Award and the Impact Sector Volunteer of the Year Award. Please refer to the award descriptions and criteria below as you consider individuals for nomination.

The Joseph Dalton Community Service Award
This award was created by unanimous vote of the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Directors in 2017. The award recognizes and honors Joseph Dalton who served as the President of the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce from 1970 to 2010. During his tenure, the Chamber’s membership, influence, and impact grew significantly as a direct result of Joe’s leadership, passion, and commitment to establishing Saratoga County as a great place to live, work and play.
Past recipients of the Joseph Dalton Community Service Award include: Steve Sullivan (2018); Tom Roohan (2019); John Munter, Sr. (2020); and Julie Stokes (2021).
The annual award is presented to the recipient during the Chamber’s Annual Dinner. Below is the criteria to be used by those in the community who would like to nominate someone to be considered for this award. The selection committee will use the same criteria to choose one person from the nominations as this year’s recipient.
- This is a community service-focused award to honor an individual who has been faithful and loyal to the Saratoga County community for a minimum of 25 years.
- The individual selected will have proven through their actions to be honorable, ready, relevant, innovative, and versatile, always doing what is right for the community.
- The individual will have a legacy of being forward deployed, meaning they’ve contributed to the community via volunteering their time, energy, and expertise – not just their money.
- Individuals who are ineligible include:
- Individuals who currently work for or volunteer on the Chamber’s Board of Directors
- Individuals whose work for the community was done as an elected or appointed public official
The term “impact sector” encompasses all of our nonprofit organizations that support our community. The work of the impact sector covers a range of issues that improve the quality of life not just for those directly utilizing their services, but for all of us. From human services to the arts, social justice, the environment, health care, education, and more, the organizations comprising our local impact sector are making a difference, often working quietly without need for recognition. Our agencies find innovative collaborations to maximize impact and solve problems from a holistic focus (e.g., connecting healthcare and the environment or the arts and homelessness). And without exception, the impact sector relies on the support of local community members who, like our agencies, often have diverse interests, indefatigable energy, passionate commitment, and volunteer/work humbly behind the scenes.
The Impact Sector Volunteer of the Year Award seeks to recognize and honor those community members who embody this spirit of dedication, passion, innovation, and commitment to improving our community by working or volunteering for more than one nonprofit organization. This winning candidate is a person who goes beyond one area of interest to make a positive impact for multiple constituencies.
In partnership with the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce, a committee of leaders representative of the Saratoga County Impact Sector will accept nominations, review, and select at least one Impact Sector honoree annually. To maintain fairness and impartiality, the members of the Impact Sector Award Committee are not disclosed publicly. Below is the criteria to be used by those in the community who would like to nominate someone to be considered for this award.
- Nominee must, live, work, or have a meaningful impact in Saratoga County.
- Preference given to nominees who demonstrate volunteer/work commitment across disparate agencies and/or interest areas of the impact sector.
