Epilepsy Foundation of Northeastern New York Presents its 2025 College Scholarships

The Epilepsy Foundation of Northeastern New York, Inc. recently named the recipients of five college scholarships to graduating high school seniors.

These scholarships are awarded to students currently being treated for epilepsy who plan to further their education. Eligible recipients must reside in one of twenty-two counties served by the Epilepsy Foundation of Northeastern New York.

Congratulations to the following recipients:

The Nick Birchak Strength of Character College Scholarship ($1,000)- Awarded to Brice Skiff of Albany, who will attend SUNY Cobleskill to major in canine training and management.

The Stephen Piorkowski Scholarship ($500) - Awarded to Gavin Rice of Phoenicia, who will attend Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute to major in biomedical engineering.

The Cindy Hoetzer Memorial Scholarship ($500) - Awarded to Melina Picard of Jeffersonville, who will attend Alfred State University to major in nursing, and Aiden Gonzalez of Schenectady, who will attend Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts to major in communications.

The Epilepsy Foundation of Northeastern New York Scholarship ($1,000) – awarded to Kayla Beaudoin of Troy, who will attend SUNY Oneonta to major in biology and will be enrolled in their physical therapy program.

The Barbara Quackenbush Scholarship ($1000)- Awarded to Madison Dillon of Schenectady, who will attend SUNY Schenectady County Community College to major in science with a concentration in biology.

Epilepsy is a neurological disorder defined as having two or more recurring seizures; it can happen to anyone, at any age, at any time. 1 in 26 people will be diagnosed with epilepsy in their lifetime. Epilepsy is more common than Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, Multiple Sclerosis, and Parkinson’s disease combined.
