Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented?Newscast Director?to join our News/Production team. The Newscast Director is responsible for the technical execution of live and recorded newscasts, ensuring a smooth, visually engaging, and error-free broadcast. This role requires a strong understanding of broadcast operations, excellent communication skills, and the ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced newsroom environment.
Job Responsibilities
- Direct live and pre-recorded newscasts using production switchers, graphics systems, and automation tools.
- Collaborate with producers, anchors, technical crew, and newsroom staff to execute the editorial vision of each newscast.
- Operate and troubleshoot control room equipment including switchers, audio boards, graphics systems, and video servers.
- Maintain the visual and technical quality of the broadcast, ensuring all elements are timed and executed correctly.
- Attend pre-show meetings and provide direction to studio and control room staff.
- Implement creative transitions, camera shots, and effects to enhance storytelling.
- Respond quickly to breaking news and last-minute changes with professionalism and precision.
- Ensure compliance with FCC regulations and station policies.
Qualifications
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, or related field preferred.
- 2+ years of experience directing newscasts in a professional broadcast environment.
- Proficiency with production automation systems (e.g., Ross OverDrive, Grass Valley Ignite, or similar).
- Strong understanding of studio and control room operations.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively under tight deadlines.
- Flexibility to work any assigned shift including days, nights, weekends, holidays; and extended hours.
Compensation and Benefits
When extending an offer, the company considers a variety of factors such as (but not limited to) the candidate's work experience, education/training & key skills as well as internal peer equity and other market and business considerations.
The hourly pay range for this position is $18-$20 per hour.
