Food Programs Manager

Manages the daily operations of a daily soup kitchen and high volume food pantry including supervision of all staff and volunteers as well as food preparation, inventory, storage and safety compliance.  Coordinates the rural food delivery program and maintains contact with partnering agencies and community members.

Job Duties:
 

  • Will directly supervise the soup kitchen cooks and ensure orderly operation of a daily soup kitchen to include inventory and proper health code compliance. 
  • Will actively supervise delivery drivers who pick up and distribute donated foods for the food pantry serving Saratoga County.
  • Maintain all equipment at the Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry to ensure optimum working order through in-house preventative maintenance and/or through outside contractors. Ensuring safety compliance at all times.
  • Monitor and track all food donations, purchases, and inventory. Coordinate distribution between soup kitchen and food pantry as well as food pick-ups and delivery from surrounding community.
  • Place orders as needed through the Regional Food Bank to ensure that inventory levels are always at an appropriate level. Track all information needed for food banks and grant reporting. 
  • Participate in fundraising events and explore alternate funding streams for the program. 
  • Manage seasonal programs such as Mass Food Distribution, Summer Lunch Program, and a large county-wide Thanksgiving basket distribution.
  • Train and coordinate food programs volunteers. Manage volunteer schedules to ensure roles are filled.
  Position offers an annual salary of $45,000.
 
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or 5+ years in Food Management and/or Culinary experience.
  • Experience with health code requirements, kitchen maintenance, inventory, ordering and vendor relationships. 
  • Cooking experience preferably for large numbers of people, awareness of nutritional value of meals, kitchen operations and experience working with staff and/or volunteers.
  • This position can be physically demanding at times.  Must be able to lift, cart, transport and move boxes of food, and various kitchen equipment weighing 50+ pounds on a regular basis. 
  • Must have proven experience in staff supervision, performance management and staff development. Volunteer supervision is a plus!
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people of diverse social and economic backgrounds. 
  • Above average organizational and communication skills, ability to work independently, good interpersonal skills, and ability to maintain a positive attitude with staff and clientele.
  • Experience driving a large delivery van and/or box truck is necessary. 
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable to operate agency vehicles.
