When Selfishness is a Virtue Presented by Libby Coreno

Each day, we are inundated with messages that “giving is good” so we respond in kind; by selflessly helping our children, spouses, friends, clients, coworkers, etc. When are we giving UP ourselves in the process? If we feel tired, obligated, or resentful in our daily activities, we must ask whether we are receiving any joy from our giving. Without joy, we bring unhealthy attitudes to our tasks. Re-examining our daily routine can show patterns of joyless over-giving and allow us to adjust our boundaries.
