Turkish Style Paper Marbling with John C. Bielik. #1305-0827. 1 day.
Come learn a truly historical craft from renowned instructor and historic trades interpreter, John C. Bielik, whose paper and products are featured in the shops at Colonial Williamsburg. This workshop is intended to be an introduction to the Turkish style of paper marbling. This variety of marbling is different from most marbling done in the world today. Historically appropriate materials and techniques of the paper marbler will be the foundation of this class. While students will learn several Turkish inspired patterns, the term "Turkish" applies mainly to the materials used in the Turkish style of paper marbling. Instruction will include a discussion and application of basic tools, materials and techniques. There will be plenty of time to create a variety of patterns. It is important to wear clothing and shoes that can become stained with paint. Children ages 8-13 are welcome to take the class accompanied by a parent. Children over the age of thirteen are welcome on their own.
NOTE: Students are encouraged to bring an apron and/or wear old clothes and shoes that they won't mind getting stained.
