The Next Step - Introduction to Blacksmithing II with Dick Sargent #1293-1019. 4 days.
If you have taken any of the four- or five-day basic blacksmithing classes, this is what should be next for you. We will expand on what you have learned and proceed to more advanced tool making and welding, job layout procedures, proper hinge eye forging, simple mortise and tenon construction along with other techniques as time allows. Finished projects (other than tools) will not be the point of this class. Rather, small parts and pieces of what could be elements of completed works will be yours to study, reference and refresh for yourself when you are working at home in your shop. This course is open to all beginners as long as you feel competent with the skills offered in our basic classes. Please don't forget your notebook and pencil. The notes on layout will be as important as any of the forged elements.
NOTE: Hard shoes and long pants are required for student safety. Owing to the physical demands and to safety issues, this class is suggested for students 18 years of age and older.
