A lecture recital on the life, career, and compositions of Sergius Kagen featuring art songs by Kagen set to the poetry of Carl Sandburg, Emily Dickinson, James Joyce, Langston Hughes, and Walter de la Mare. Sergius is best known as the editor of most of the critical editions of song that singers use daily, but was also a renowned teacher of voice, accompaniment, and repertoire at Julliard and an extremely gifted pianist. It was in this capacity, as a pianist, that Kagen came to play in the studio of Marcella Sembrich and spend subsequent summers at the summer retreat on Lake George.
