Sustainable Saratoga's Pre-Earth Day Tree Survey - 04/20/2012
Saratoga's Street Trees Pay Us Back: Early Earth Day Tree Inventory
Sustainable Saratoga's pre-Earth Day initiative takes place Saturday, April 21. Volunteers are asked to meet at 10 a.m. at The High Rock Avenue Pavilions (site of the summer Farmers' Market) and use their morning to help assess and catalog the status of the trees which lend so much to the streets and avenues - and residents - of Saratoga Springs. Training will be provided on how to identify and measure trees for those who haven't participated in a survey before. A Global Positioning (GPS) unit or a digital device with a GPS "app" would be helpful, but isn't required, and partners are recommended to help with the measuring. Families are especially welcome! As part of the survey, a self-guided walking tour of Saratoga's remaining historic elm trees and a tree hunt among the varied tree species in Congress Park is included. Please bring: something to write with, a clipboard or hard surface to fill out the tree survey form on, a measuring tape - and as many friends and neighbors as you can! Come and enjoy a spring morning with Sustainable Saratoga while helping catalog and preserve parts of city's living history for Earth Day - and the future.
