Stomping Ground Camp Ribbon Cutting

Camp Stomping Ground in Middle Grove, New York invites the community to a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the completed restoration of the site’s 1830’s farm house at 3430 Boyhaven Rd.

Since acquiring the property in 2020, the organization wondered what would become of the forgotten building. When it came time to choose between demolition and new construction or attempting to save the historic building the camp’s team got to work. The restoration began in August of 2021 when the facilities team on site started removing debris and the lathe and plaster walls to get a look at the building’s structural integrity.

With the help and guidance of John Munter, from whom the camp bought the property in 2020, Stomping Ground started hiring contractors to repair carpentry, install new plumbing, electricity, HVAC, insulation and drywall as well as replacing the compromised back addition to the house. The Farm House now houses six of Stomping Ground’s year round staff and allows the organization to offer programming during the shoulder season to their regular summer operations, and further their mission of creating the next generation of empathetic decision makers.
