Maple Leaf Series with Bill Bourne and Catherine MacLellan

From the land of Joni Mitchell, Gordon Lightfoot, and Neil Young, we bring you a sweet sample of Canada’s modern folk scene with our new Maple Leaf Music Series! Our booker travelled to Ontario to scout out exciting artists who would be new to New York State audiences. Tonight we bring you two remarkable finds:

Bill Bourne was raised in a musical family on Alberta farmland. He learned to nap behind the piano at country dances. It grew in him a soul-connection to nature, music, and people gathering for celebration. Now into his fourth decade as a touring musician, Bourne is a multiple Juno Award winner and one of the most recognizable and admired figures in Canada’s folk world. Based in blues, Bill’s songs radiate deep soul, stirring rhythm, and a gritty beauty that only a precious few artists are capable of.

Catherine MacLellan is a Prince Edward Island native now living in Nova Scotia. She was selected as “Critics’ Favourite New Discovery” by Penguin Eggs Magazine (Canada’s leading folk publication) in 2008. It wasn’t long before she became the #1 Roots Artist on iTunes Canada, won the Canadian Folk Music Award, and began touring across North America and Europ
