Saratoga Chabad presents the 2nd Annual Summer Holocaust Lecture Hidden Holocaust Children- Belgian Nuns and Their Daring Rescue of Young Jews from the Nazis Professor Suzanne Vromen Sunday July 10th, 7pm at Saratoga Chabad 130 Circular St $10 Admission $36 Sponsor - Book signing following Lecture RSVP 526-0773 saratora@aol.com Professor Emeritus of Sociology at Bard College, Suzanne Vromen was living in Belgium when the Germans invaded in 1940. After a year under Nazi occupation, she escaped to the Belgian Congo. She received her M.S. in Urban Planning from Columbia University, M.A. and PhD in Sociology from New York University. In addition to chairing the Sociology department at Bard, Suzanne co-founded the Women's Studies Program and directed it for eight years. She has held visiting positions at Vassar College, at the University of Haifa, and as Fulbright Senior Specialist at the Buber Institute/Free University of Brussels. Teaching Holocaust studies for many years, she gives high school teachers workshops under the auspices of Facing History and Ourselves, and lectured at the NYC Museum of Jewish Heritage. Her book Hidden Children of the Holocaust: Belgian Nuns and Their Daring Rescue of Young Jews from the Nazis was published by Oxford University Press. Her other publications are essays on collective memory, nostalgia and commemoration, identities of Jewish-American women and Hannah Arendt's Jewish identity.
