History In late 1985, Lenny Solomon went into the studio with his band and spent 2 weeks recording a new album. Lenny wrote song parodies in the style of Alan Sherman, Mickey Katz, Tom Lehrer and Weird Al Yankovic. Lenny named the band Shlock Rock. "Shlock" meaning “second hand rock”, as now the music was second hand and the lyrics were new. The CD entitled Learning is Good took the Jewish music world by storm. The production was the beginning of an exciting Jewish rock band whose purpose was to teach and help people feel good about their Judaism and their heritage through song parodies and original music both in English and Hebrew. Since January 1986, Lenny Solomon and Shlock Rock have produced 37 CD's including 16 CD's of song parodies, 14 CD's of original music in both English and Hebrew and six CD's of children's music. Additionally, they have released 3 video compilations all available on one DVD, songbooks, and much more. Since September 1987, they have performed over 2,000 shows in all 50 US states, in over 250 cities worldwide including every MLB, NFL and NBA city and all but one NHL city. They are currently promoting their latest release Shlockapella! What started as a whim has become a musical empire. Each product contains songs that provide material for Teachers in both formal and informal Jewish Education. There is no better vehicle for teaching Jewish topics than Shlock Rock. Currently there are over 500 songs for all different age groups. As Shlock Rock continues its storied career, the goals of Lenny and the band are to keep producing great Jewish Music and in addition, branch out into Broadway and film. One of a handful of people to make his living in Jewish Rock Music for over 30 years, Shlock Rock's songs have been used in educational programming by Jewish organizations across the religious spectrum. The evening’s event is part of the 2018 7th Annual Saratoga Jewish Cultural Festival. These family-oriented, fun-filled events foster community, enhance Jewish identity and raise awareness of Jewish cultural arts.
