Celebrating 150 years of racing in Saratoga continues! - 09/14/2013
Say Goodbye to the Summer Heat and Cool Down
The Adult & Senior Center of Saratoga has big plans for Sunday, September 15. We’re starting with an Open House from 10am-1pm. Try exercise classes, meet staff, tour the building and visit our art show and sale. Learn about all the fantastic programs and trips offered to adults age 50 & over at very affordable prices. The Center’s ongoing programs include aerobics, ceramics, pilates, gentle yoga, osteo, pool, card & table games, movies and informative presentations. The Center also hosts lunch daily and provides free computer assistance and advocacy. This is a great time to explore the Center as a resource for yourself or a family member.
Celebrating 150 years of racing in Saratoga continues! Immediately following the Open House the Center presents the “End of Summer Cool Down.” This Saratoga 150 neighborhood event runs from 1-4pm and brings to life nostalgic pastimes that Saratoga’s families enjoyed years ago including music, art, ice cream and storytelling.
Listen to the cool sounds of George Fletcher and his band “Foldin’ Money” live, all afternoon. “Foldin’ Money” masterfully performs blues, jazz, rock and reggae and was recently inducted into the NYS Blues Hall of Fame.
There’s a sweet side to our “Cool Down” with Saratoga’s most beloved frozen confectioners participating in a blind taste test! Sample frozen favorites from Ben & Jerry’s, Cold Stone, Eugenio’s Gelato, Kilwins, Plum Dandy and Stewart’s. Try them all at no charge… then vote for your #1 favorite!
The Center’s art instructor, Patrice Mastrianni, is leading a family pastel drawing workshop during both the Open House & Cool Down. Kids and adults are invited to make their own masterpiece inspired by a Saratoga 150 horse and jockey sill life provided by G. Willikers.
Racing in Saratoga has left behind many colorful stories. Local historian Dave Patterson hosts “Memories of Saratoga” and recounts the horse tales and saucy rumors that made Saratoga one of the coolest cities in the world. Be sure to bring your own stories to share!
The “End of Summer Cool Down” is free, open to the public and promises to be a spectacular way to spend a Sunday afternoon. The Adult & Senior Center is located behind St. Peter’s Church at 5 Williams Street in downtown Saratoga Springs.
