Candlemaking 101 with Sarah Rodman. #1157-1019. 1/2 Day.
This course introduces students (age 8 and older) to the artful tradition of chandlery: the skill of crafting hand-made candles. You will acquire an understanding of the essential elements of "finding and shaping light": Color, heat, molds, scent, wax and wick. Blending a mix of old and new materials, you will create a variety of candles ready to keep or gift. Students will need to bring an apron to class as well as used candles, candle stubs, crayons, and an assortment of heat resistant/watertight containers such as mason jars, mugs, sea-shells, teacups and vintage glassware. No experience necessary.
NOTE: Students will be working with hot wax, dyes and fragrances. Wear casual work clothes.
