Blacksmithing: Andirons for the Fireplace with Dick Sargent. #977-1014. 3 days. October 14-16.
Andirons are an essential tool of any fireplace. They can be used to support the logs of the fire in a way that allows the draft to be controlled for cooking or simply to keep the logs from spilling out of the fire. In this class we’ll learn to forge a simple pair of Parlor Andirons. These lowly tools hold a bevy of blacksmithing techniques. You’ll discover how to forge an upset corner, slit and drift holes, punch and drift square holes and make tenons as well as make the tools to do these tasks. Come and forge something beautiful while learning all these techniques.
NOTE: Hard shoes and long pants are required for student's safety.
