A Reflection of Our Lives Through Dance - 03/31/2012
A Reflection of Our Lives Through Dance
On April 1st at 2:00pm, the National Museum of Dance will be showing the film A Reflection of Our Lives Through Dance, a film about the lives and art of the members of Figures in Flight 5. Susan Slotnick, choreographer and founder of the Figures in Flight Dance Company, created Figures in Flight 5 & 6 under the auspices of Rehabilitation Through the Arts, a non-profit organization that brings theater, dance and poetry to prisons in New York State. The program takes place in Woodbourne Correctional Facility, a medium security prison for men and the modern dance program is the only one of its kind in a men’s prison nationwide. The film will be shown in the Swyer Studios located directly behind the museum and will be followed by a short talk by Susan Slotnick, a performance by Figures in Flight 5, and a short question and answer session with Susan and the dancers. This is a free educational program of the National Museum of Dance; donations are appreciated to help defray the cost of the program. Figures in Flight Dance Company is a professional, contemporary youth dance troupe based in upstate New York. There have been 5 companies since 1999, all of which have carried the mission to celebrate diversity and tolerance.
