"Picturing Lafayette: The Visual Culture of Revolutionary Leadership"
By Laura Auricchio, a historian of French art and culture and Dean of Undergraduate Studies at the New School in New York. She has just published The Marquis: Lafayette Reconsidered, a biography of a major figure in the French and American revolutions. Drawing on this project, her lecture will explore how images shaped the political identity of the marquis de Lafayette by presenting him, according to changing circumstances, as radical or conservative, hero or traitor. Signed copies of The Marquis will available for purchase.
