2012 Alfred Z. Solomon Saratoga Springs Lions Health Fair
The Saratoga Springs Lions Club will be sponsoring their 6th Annual Alfred Z. Solomon Health Fair on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at Saratoga Springs High School on West Avenue in Saratoga Springs. The event is FREE to the public and will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event includes free health screenings, flu shots, seminars, demonstrations, an American Red Cross blood drive on-site, a fun run for kids, health-related exhibitors and a special presentation from Multisport Soldier founder, Sam Cila, a veteran of the National Guard.
Joined by his companion dog Jillian, Sam Cila will talk about overcoming the odds and coping with adversity. Sam will also lead a kids’ healthy FUN RUN at 11AM, featuring medals for all participating children ages 5-10.
Free screenings at the Health Fair will include:
- Vision screenings by the Lions Eye Institute
- Hearing screenings by Saratoga Hearing Center
- Blood Pressure screenings by Saratoga Hospital
- Flu Shots by Saratoga Hospital
- Posture Screenings by AAC Family Wellness Centers
- Nerve and muscle testing related to spinal health by Ferguson Family Chiropractic
Free seminars and presentations at the Health Fair will include:
- Diabetes education from Novo Nordisk
- Sign language lessons
- Hearing loss prevention, including tinnitus and loud noise simulation
- Healthy foods and nutrition
- Alcohol and Drug impairment goggles
- Canine companions for the disabled and information on raising guide dogs from puppies
- Weight Watchers with a focus for men
- Arthritis/joint health by Orthopedic Associates of Saratoga
- Raising Healthier Kids
- New technology for vision and hearing loss
Exhibitors will be sharing information on topics such as Alzheimer’s disease, Lyme disease, assistive technology, low-cost health insurance, eco-friendly living, diabetes, organ donation, rehabilitation, Home Instead, bathroom safety and more. Recycle your used eyeglasses, hearing aid batteries and expired/unused prescription drugs.
Children will benefit from The Saratoga Children’s Museum which will give two presentations with the interactive “Stuffy” regarding health and nutrition, Pai's Tae Kwon Do demonstrations on health and the benefits of martial arts and the Saratoga YMCA demonstrations of healthy exercise choices for all ages.
Healthy food will be available by Four Seasons Natural Foods of Saratoga, The Saratoga Lions Leos and Wonderful Brands. Free raffle items include three 3 month memberships to the YMCA and gift certificates for many of the products demonstrated throughout the health fair.
