National Donut Day
Come down to Broadway on the corner of Church St (outside Adirondack Trust) to get your delicious, free donut in celebration of The Salvation Army's National Donut Day.
Did you know, Salvation Army Lassies bravely went to WW1 to support our troops? They found boys who were homesick and hungry. Using what they had on hand (lard, flour, sugar, and war helmets) they fried up some donuts to remind them that they were cared for and loved!
Soon the tempting aroma of frying donuts drew a lengthy line of soldiers to the hut.Standing in the mud and rain, they patiently waited their turn. The ladies were able to churn out up to 9,000 donuts a day!
Come on down to celebrate!
