Caffe Lena Poetry Open Mic Featuring Nancy White
This monthly event, hosted by Carol Graser, takes place on the first Wednesday of every month and includes an open mic reading as well as featured poets. Each open mic poet reads two short poems (less than one page) or one longer poem. All styles of poetry are welcome. Sign up for the open mic starts at 7:00 and readings start at 7:30. January’s featured poet is Nancy White. Nancy White is the author of three poetry collections: Sun, Moon, Salt, winner of the Washington Prize for poetry; Detour; and her latest, Ask Again Later. She publishes in a range of literary journals, from Ploughshares and FIELD to New England Review, Rattle, and New Orleans Review. Locally she’s a proud member of The Women of Mass Dissemination. This team shares the quest to make the time to write, nourish the drive to publish, and survive the slings and arrows of rejection along the way. Nancy has taught at Bennington College, Saint Ann’s School in Brooklyn, and is currently a professor of English at SUNY Adirondack. She’s also president and editor-in-chief of a nonprofit poetry organization, The Word Works, based in Washington DC.
