Old Tavern Farm is a boutique thoroughbred breeding and cut flower farm located in Saratoga Springs, NY. We grow a wide variety of flowers for cut flower production, specializing in native blooms that reflect the season, our climate and our distinctive bouquets. We are looking for the right people to join our fast-growing team!  Days are spent outside in a high energy environment where we work (rain or shine) to bring these lovely flowers to our customers. We strive to grow high quality, long-lasting, distinctive blooms.
Job duties include:
This person leads and works alongside 3-5 seasonal/part time employees to produce high quality, cut flowers for farmers markets, wholesale accounts, and special events.

  • Oversees all aspects of the farm’s flower production from soil preparation to harvest. 
  • Ensure a steady supply of a variety of marketable flowers from February through December.
  • Selects suitable flowers and bulbs for growing.
  • Maintain and improve crop plan, seed order, sowing schedule, succession planting and inventory.
  • Conducts soil analyses, site assessments, prepares and maintains growing media and site selection.
  • Maintains crops by planting, weeding, identifying and treating pests and diseases, de budding, fertilizing and watering.
  • Daily early morning harvest 5-6 days per week at the height of the season. 
  • Organize a bouquet-making process that practices efficiency, while making high quality beautiful bouquets for markets and wholesale orders.
  • Continuously dry flowers throughout the growing season to ensure a robust dry flower program in the fall/winter.
  • Maintains and keeps clean farm tools, equipment and production buildings.
  • Oversee quality control and inventory of our roadside stand.
  • Available to work weekends and farmers markets.
  • General farm work and participation in projects as needed.
The ideal applicant is knowledge and experience with flower growing, soils, farm production, dried flowers, tractoring, practices for fertilizing and pest control, green house production, cultivation, and harvest.
This is a year-round position.
Pay based on experience 
40 hours a week
Preferred two years’ of experience on a production farm
Cut flower growing experience required
Comfortable working in all weather conditions
Ability to lift, blend and transfer items up to 50 lbs
Floral design skills are a plus
Rain or Shine/Warm or Cold Temperatures
Ability to monitor quality control and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
