An event commemorating Solomon Northup, an African-American man who was abducted into slavery in 1841 and remained in captivity for 12 years. His memoir, Twelve Years a Slave, was made into a major motion picture in 2013 that won three Oscars, including best picture. The day’s program will include discussions and presentations on the life of Solomon Northup, slavery in the U.S., and related topics, as well as musical performances, readings, and more. The program will include participation by descendants of Solomon Northup. Open to the public free of charge. Reception to follow.
