Solomon Northrup Day: a Celebration of Freedom
Skidmore will host the 15th annual Solomon Northup Day in honor of the freeborn African-American who spent 12 years in slavery after being abducted 1841. The event will include readings, music, and talks by historians, educators, and Northup descendants. Northup's memoir, Twelve Years a Slave, will soon be released as a film by Fox Searchlight, and clips from the movie will be shown.
