Hadley Maple in April Festival
There are plenty of family-friendly events happening at the 8th annual Maple in April FestivalApril 27, 28 & 29, 2012. The event kicks off on Friday evening along Main Street,Lake Luzerne at the Rockwell-Harmon House & Visitor Center with a maple cooking contest where all entries must contain maple. Listen to Betty Cassidy, storyteller tell tales of maple sugaring and other farm stories, at the H-L Public Library. Then join Chris Shaw for an hour of folk music around the Adirondack Folk School’s amphitheater fire pit where we can roast marshmallows before heading home for the evening. Saturday is packed with activities galore. Breakfast is ready at 8a.m. Getting a whiff of Oscar’s Smokehouse maple sausage cooking on the grill will lead you to the Wilder’s Sugar Shack just over the tracks on Rockwell Street. Wheels on the … car, truck, motorcycle, bicycle and train go round and round on their way to the Smead Memorial Park for the Lil’ Sugar Car, Truck & Cycle Show and Flea Market & Swap Meet. The wheels of the Saratoga & North Creek Railway will transport bicycle and cyclist north to Thurman to pedal back to Hadley. Those wishing to cross the trestle spanning the Sacandaga River may ride south to Corinth. We say “All aboard for train” enthusiasts - The Upstate Model Railroaders club will set up their displays and allow children (young & old) to work their scaled train models. Also, Clarke Dunham, Tony award nominated Broadway set designer, will show highlights from his Railroad on Parade Museum in Pottersville. There’s lots of maple goodies and just ‘sweet’ fun for everyone – Crafters, food vendors, music and activities for children, including inflatables and big trucks will be along Rockwell Street. Sunday afternoon activities include a Walking Historic Stroll from the Four-corners of Rockwell Street and Stony Creek Road. A guide, in period costume will narrate some historic and interesting points while strolling along Rockwell Street, Hadley to Lake Luzerne’s Main Street historic district. Those wishing to tour the area on bicycle should bring their bicycle and follow the self-tour map outlining points of interest in Hadley and Lake Luzerne. This activity is family friendly.Thursday Apr 26, 2012 Saturday Apr 28, 2012
