It is essential to learn the fundamentals of any craft to have a foundation on which to become a skilled craftsman. In this course students will learn fire management, drawing out tapers, splitting, upsetting, punching of mild steel and more. The class will be shown how steel moves as it is forged and why. The basics of forge welding will also be taught while making chain links. If you only want to satisfy a curiosity about blacksmithing or if you might at some time want to become a professional smith, this course is essentially for you!
NOTE: Hard shoes and long pants are required for student safety. Owing to the physical demands and to safety issues, this class is suggested for students 18 years of age and older.
