The USCAA Baseball Small College World Series is moving North. College of St. Joseph's-Vermont has secured the bid to host the tournament in Glens Falls, New York on May 8th-May 12th, with Sunday serving as the banquet at the Glens Falls Civic Center, parade of athletes, and home run derby. Play will begin on Monday and Thursday a National Champion will be crowned Tournament logging and banquet information will be released at a later date. The Glens Falls location will provide a sophisticated small town backdrop for the tournament, a change from recent USCAA Baseball National Championships. Glens Falls is an hour north of Albany and two hours south of Burlington, Vermont. The venue will be at East Field Park, in Glens falls, a multi-use facility with a stadium and can seat up to 7,000 spectators. Opened in 1980, the park has previously played home to Double A affiliates of the Chicago White Sox and Detroit Tigers and hosted the NJCAA Baseball World Series in 2005 and 2006. Currently, East Field is the home of the Glens Falls Dragons of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League. The College of St. Joseph, Rutland Vermont, will be the host for the event. The Fighting Saints Baseball Team came in 5th place last year in Virginia. The College of St. Joseph's Athletic Director, Bob Godlewski, a well-know figure to the region in baseball, said, "We are thrilled that we have been awarded the opportunity to host the 2016 USCAA Small College World Series." He added, "The partnership we built with Ben Bernard and the Glens Falls Dragons ensures that we will put on a first-rate event that builds on the success of last year's Small College World Series held in Virginia. We are grateful to everyone at the USCAA who worked to bring this great event to the area. We are currently looking for local business sponsorships and donations. The College of St. Joseph and members of Ben Bernard's East Field Tournament Team are currently reaching out to communities of Rutland, Vermont and Glens Falls, New York for support. The college needs financial support as well as volunteers to ensure a successful tournament that will bring tremendous recognition to the region. Within the next two months, college personnel and Ben Bernard's Group will contact local community members, local government, businesses and other local colleges and school districts for volunteers to polish the facility for the tournament and act as ambassadors and representatives of the community during the tournament, itself. The hope that local seniors will remember the great minor league teams, who formerly played in Glens Falls, and will help reignite the baseball fever of the past.
