The Long Emergency vs. NYC's Resurgency
This debate about the future of cities will feature two of America's most interesting voices: James Howard Kunstler, whose book The Long Emergency: Surviving the End of Oil, is an apocalyptic vision of a post-oil future; and Paul Steely White, executive director of Transportation Alternatives, a leader who is helping to transform New York City into a livable metropolis. Both speakers share a common vision of the need for a sustainable future. Author Jeff Olson of Alta Planning + Design will moderate the debate, which will focus on whether change is possible in light of our modern condition. There will be a "meet and greet" reception in the Palamountain Lobby before the talk, from 5-6 p.m. For more information call 518-580-5195 Free and open to the public.
