Since the late 18th century\, South Street has been the home of bars\, gambling\, restaurants and entertainment of all kinds. It was a stop on the vaudeville circuit and a site for the storage of Canadian whiskey on its way to New York City during Prohibition. Today\, South Street continues to evolve\, with development efforts that some say threaten its very character. Based on interviews with residents\, business owners\, community leaders and others with intimate knowledge of the area\, the play takes a fresh look at the past\, present and future of the historic street.
